Music Cravings: Kodaline

Lately I have been having a music craving. None of the bands or musicians I listen to were going on tour anytime soon, but I really felt like I had to go to a concert. I would constantly check if anyone I know were coming to town, but either nobody was coming to my area, or it just wasn't at a convenient time for me.
But then at the beginning of the month I was on the House of Blues website and stumbled upon a name that I vaguely recognized. Kodaline. They are an Irish band, originally named 21 Demands, who have all known each other since their childhood.

Their first album, In a Perfect World has 11 songs, including recurring singles like "High Hopes", "All I Want", "Love Like This", and "Pray". The album includes seven new songs; "One Day", "Brand New Day", "After The Fall", "Big Bad World", "All Comes Down", "Talk", and "Way Back When". In April 2014, the song "All I Want" was released as part of the soundtrack for The Fault in Our Stars, as well as used in the film. That feature is what has gotten them noticed by the public recently, and what allowed them to play at the House of Blues here in Boston on wednesday night.

Their performance also included music from Kodaline's new album, Coming Up for Air, which is more of an experiment with synthesizers and a whole new sound.
I really love their music. The concert wasn't a full house but Steve Garrigan, the lead singer, has an AMAZING voice, and the musicians are so good.

Here are some music videos of music from Kodaline's first full album, In a Perfect World.

Life Update: "That Type of Person" tag

The other day I was scouring the internet for some interesting ideas for this week's post, and while catching up on my daily YouTube-binge I watched Connor Franta's latest vlog. That is what gave me the idea to do the "That Type of Person" tag, which is a whole bunch of random questions that might help you guys (my lovely readers) to find out more about what type of person I am.
Here goes nothing!

Do you drink your cereal milk?

I don't actually have cereal very often, but when I do of course I drink the milk! It tastes so much better after.

CD's, Radio, or Phone?
Phone. I take the bus to school, so every morning I listen to the music on my phone (unless I'm doing my reading homework).

Window or Aisle?

Window. Always the window.

Fold or Crumple?
Crumple. Who has time to fold?

Stressed or Relaxed?

I am usually a pretty relaxed person. I never really get stressed.

Patient or Impatient?

Patient, but it depends on the situation ;)

Schedule or Go with the flow?

Schedule. I work best when things are in a routine. Every week day is scheduled and my mornings are always the same. It just makes life so much easier.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A disney channel star.

Dressed up or Dressed down?

I love getting dressed up, and my outfits are pretty much always thought out and put together...except when I'm too lazy.

Favorite article of clothing?

Tops. Just Tops in general. Sweaters, Blouses, and everything in between.

What instrument would you play?

Well I already play the guitar and the ukelele, but I wish I played the piano. The piano was the first instrument I learnt how to play, but then after a few years I stopped and now I totally regret it.

London or LA?

London. My dream would be to move to London, have an awesome job, and marry a handsome British man.

Favorite holiday?
Purim. I love thinking of creative costumes and seeing everyone else's. Sometimes I even plan my costumes a whole year in advance.

What size is your bed?

Twin.

Do you sleep with your door open or closed?

Closed. For most of my life my room didn't even have a door (my mom took them off the hinges when we moved in), but now that I do, I cannot sleep with it open even the slightest.

Sheets tucked in or out?

Out. It's so hard to sleep in hotels when the sheets are so tightly tucked in. I just feel so suffocated.

Tattoos or Piercings?

Well piercings I guess, because I have two earrings and a nose ring.

Do you smile in every photo?

Yes. Unless I'm making some other weird face.

Have you ever peed in the woods?
No, but I did pee in the desert once.

Concert or Theme park?

Concert.

Music or Books?

Music

Animated or Reality?

I hate to admit it, but I definitely watch more reality shows then animated ones.

Letter or Email?

Do people still send letters?

First Concert?

Well my first concert was technically Idan Raichel (my parents took me with them), but the first concert of my choosing was Sara Bareilles.

Do you speak any different languages?
Hebrew...and I learnt spanish for two years but it didn't stick.

Sweet or Savory?

I have the biggest sweet tooth in the world. I will always choose the sweet option.

Can you curl your tongue?

Yup.

Can you touch you tongue to your nose?

Nope :(

Can you whistle?

Only if I blow in, but I'm working on it.

Have you ever won a spelling bee?

The schools that I went to have never had spelling bees, but even if they had I would never have won. I am a terrible speller.

Do you believe in ghosts?

Not really.

Do you believe in Aliens?

Not like the green creepy cartoon kind, but I would be open to the idea of other living things on other planets.

Look Book: TOPSHOP is ready for SPRING

It may not be very warm out yet, but the stores are stocking up on spring essentials. TOPSHOP is well prepared, and I picked out some of the 2015 spring looks that I can't wait for.

Life Update: Exploration Week

Once a year, my school organizes a week in March called Exploration Week. It is a week full of trips to places in the US (and a few local Boston trips and one to Canada) that are supposed to give students a chance to travel and learn things about the world that they might not otherwise learn in school. There are trips such as the 'the south trip' where you travel through the south and learn about the Civil Rights Movement, or the 'Bay Area Protest Movement' trip that studied the AIDs movement in California. The trip that I went on this year (and was lucky enough to go on for all three past years of high school) was the 'Arts Boston' trip. This trip is pretty self explanatory. We basically go around Boston learning about all different forms of art through performances, museums, and just meeting all sorts of interesting artistic people. It takes you to see local art that maybe you didn't even know you were interested in. I would never go to an improv show in the middle of the week, but after going to Improv Asylum, and laughing hysterically the whole way through, I want to go back every night. One of the best parts about this specific trip (and this probably applies to the other trips as well) is the inspiration I get from all the art that I see.
